Tax work for Surprise
Surprise is two cities at once: retirement communities on one side and new families and small businesses on the other. The tax questions split the same way — distributions and Medicare thresholds for one group, first-year business filings and childcare credits for the other.
Both get the same thing from me: one person who knows the file, available year-round rather than for six weeks in the spring.

Surprise questions
I just started taking distributions. How much should I withhold?
It depends on your total income, filing status, and whether you have other withholding. We can set it so you neither owe in April nor hand the IRS an interest-free loan all year.
I started a business this year. When do I need to worry about taxes?
Now, ideally. Entity choice, an EIN, a separate bank account, and a plan for estimated payments in the first year prevent most of the expensive problems in year two.
I have 1099 income for the first time. What do I owe?
Income tax plus self-employment tax of roughly 15.3%, which is the part that surprises people. We figure out the quarterly number so April is not a shock.
